BAD BREATH

or Halitosis or Oral Malodor or Breath Odor, Bad-Breath

Bad breath is absolutely and extremely unpleasant odor exhaled in breathing.

bad breath, halitosis, oral malodor, breath odor, toothpaste, dental floss, dentist, gingivitis, periodontitis

What Causes it?

Dental diseases and conditions such as tooth decay, gum disease, dry mouth and poor oral hygiene are the leading causes of halitosis. Sometimes food and germs collect under the gum around Wisdom Tooth.

Most unpleasant odors are known to arise from food debris trapped in the tongue. The rough surface of the tongue provides an ideal territory for bacteria. When left on the tongue, such germs can yield the "rotten egg" smell of volatile sulfur compounds.

The Most Common Complications and Problems

Your own oral malodor is often undetectable. Close friend, a spouse, or family member may be willing to smell one's breath and provide honest feedback.

Many people have an associated bad taste (metallic, sour, fecal, etc.) with breath odor.

Halitosis can have a very negative effect on your personal relationship, jobs, communication, and friendship.

Breath odor directs to poor confidence and increases your stress.

Bad Breath Cure

Everyday toothpastes, toothpaste with prolonged protection, mouthwashes, mints, or lozenges give only temporary relief. These dental products only hide mouth odors for a few minutes.

Very effective treatment for oral malodor or halitosis is available in our dental office:

  • rinses containing substance challenging germs, such as The Chlorhexidine provide better control
  • special toothpastes, mouthwashes, and lozenges with The Chlorine Dioxide are the latest advance against bad odor. This stuff effectively destroys bad breath particles of the "rotten egg" smell
  • we avoid alcohol-containing products, since alcohol is a drying mouth agent and will worsen bad breath

How Can You Avoid Halitosis?

Brushing with Best Toothbrush, Flossing after meals is necessary to remove food debris from between the teeth.

Waterpik Ultra Dental Water Jet (WP-100W) is a NEW!, safe device and very effective oral care tool for those that can't or won't use dental floss.

Applying a small amount of special mouth rinse or tongue gel onto the tongue surface will further reduce halitosis.

Chewing Sugarless Gum can help with the production of saliva, and thereby help to reduce dry mouth and bad odor.
